Welcome by Senior Agenda Director- Why are we here?

9:05: Breakfast
9:20: Turn to person next to you. Take a few minutes to learn their name and one interesting fact about them.
9:25: Introduce other person to the whole group.
9:30 : Senior Agenda – More info on who we are.
Start presentation:
9:40 : Overview of resources available and what one needs to qualify (pass out information with phone numbers and resources.)
9:50 : Any questions?
10:00: Information about what is going on in state about improvements to the long term care system in RI.
10-10:20: Emphasize the need to hear from people on what they want. Break into small groups (staffed by Senior Agenda folks)
Questions to ask in small group discussions. Encourage input from all: (facilitators take notes)
- Do you have enough help to do the things that are important to you?
- Do you have enough say in the decisions that are made in your life?
- Do you think you have received all the information and help you need to get the services you need.
- Would you like the Rhode Island to invest more in home and community programs? Why?
- What are your needs?
- What do you think you/someone would need to avoid going into a nursing home?
10:20-10:30: Report out
10:30: Serve food. Mingle
10:45: Closing of workshop. What can you do?
- gather information now so when you need services you’re not rushing. Make sure everyone has handouts with resource info.
- advocate for changes to our system: Get involved with advocacy groups, sign the postcard, write a letter, and call your legislator- give them name and phone number. (use time in workshop to do this)
- Invite the Senior Agenda back for a follow-up presentation or to do presentations in other venues
