"Keeping Seniors Strong"
Nearly 300 people filled the Plaza Ballroom, sending a message to legislative leaders that our legislative requests are important to the lives of older adults in RI.
Maureen Maigret, SACRI’s Policy Advisor, presented the legislative and budget priority requests opening with, “We’re back, and we are stronger than ever.”
Members of the community spoke directly to each of the proposals, followed by leaders House Speaker Joseph Shekarchi, and Senate Majority Whip Val Lawson.
Speaker Shekarchi acknowledged the critical needs of older adults and addressed the challenges of the budget this year. He told attendees that "legislators listen to seniors".
He sent a resounding call to action, "I have a request for all of you. Please stay involved, make your voices heard at the State House,” and “give us feedback. You can testify in person at the State House, or in writing by letter or email".
"The Senior Agenda Coalition of Rhode Island is a tremendous advocate for seniors — and all of us at the State House are listening,” was the message from Speaker of the House Joseph Shekarchi to a capacity crowd at the Crowne Plaza.
